WHAT'S HOT ON BROADWAY
Billy Elliot, the heart warming tale of triumph over adversity of one young boy's dream to dance. The only problem is he lives in a hard living mining town, and he wants to dance ballet. A smash hit in London and with Elton John's superb score this sparkling new musical at the Imperial Theater.
Alice Ripley leads the hottest new musical in town this Spring in Next To Normal which explores the inner depths of a suburban household - The Goodmans - as they cope with crisis. Beautifully directed by Michael Grief with music by Tom Kitt and lyrics by Brian Yorkey, Next To Normal is now showing at the Booth Theater.
So much to choose from this Spring season and so many laughs to be had! Despite the doom and gloom at the other end of Manhattan Broadway is full of laughs this season. Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick are both back on Broadway. Broderick in The Philanthropist and Lane in Waiting For Godot, but they have to compete with God Of Carnage a must for any parent, starring Jeff Daniels and James Gandolfini. For something a liitle more refined try Angela Lansbury in Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit with Christine Ebersole and Rupert Graves, or Tony Award winning David Hyde Pierce in Accent On Youth. And if that isn't enough the smash hit trilogy of classic comedy, The Norman Conquests, by Alan Ayckbourn, comes straight from its sell out run in London.
From multiple Grammy Award-winning songwriter Dolly Parton, the Tony Award-winning director of Wicked and the Tony-winning choreographer of In The Heights comes 9 TO 5 The Musical, a hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era. This all-new musical comedy based on the hit movie features the blockbuster title song plus an exciting new score of 18 original numbers by Dolly Parton that mix Broadway and pop with her signature witty lyrics.
South Pacific is back on Broadway with a bang winning an amazing 7 Tony Awards! The iconic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical returns to the New York scene in its first-ever Broadway revival. Now showing at the Vivian Beaumont Theater.
2009 TONY AWARD WINNERS
At last the waiting is over, and after all the excitement of the most glamorous night on Broadway the winners of the 2009 Tony Awards have been announced. Billy Elliot, The Musical danced away with top theater honors on Sunday, winning 10 Tony Awards.
