Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train

October 3-November 12, 2017

Can murderers ever truly find redemption? This is the question asked in this new revival of Stephen Adly Guirgis' 2000 acclaimed drama. Praised by both Ben Brantley (The New York Times and The Village Voice's Michael Feingold, it was also notable for its directing talent; the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. The story focuses on a 30-year-old bicycle messenger who is languishing until trial for murder on Rikers Island, and his friendship with a seemingly innocent man, who claims to have found Jesus, whilst awaiting his own trial.

Edward Albee's At Home at the Zoo

January 30-March 11, 2018

Honoring the work of the late thrice- Pulitzer Prize for Drama-winning Edward Albee, this new revival of his 2004 play is directed by the in-demand Lila Neugebauer, a year after this death. A work that was in fact an extension of his 1959 one-act drama The Zoo Story, this play explores the life of one man, Peter as he and his wife discuss the ennui in their marriage. We then follow Peter him to the zoo for some quiet contemplation, only to have his life shattered completely.

Our Lady of 121st Street

May 1-June 10, 2018

The second play of Stephen Adly Guirgis' to feature part of the Signature 2017/18 season, this charming yet biting comedy drama once again examines the dark side of belief and religion. First premiering in 2003 at Labyrinth Theater Company, this darkly funny play follows a group of former students, as they arrive in Harlem to mourn the death of Sister Rose, a strict but hard-drinking nun who died of alcoholism. However, they can't hold a funeral without the guest of honor as the motley crew find out to their chagrin, when the body goes missing!
