My Very Own British Invasion

My Very Own British Invasion at Paper Mill Playhouse

Why see My Very Own British Invasion?

we're into something good!

Step back in time with the Paper Mill Playhouse as they bring back the swinging sixties with this brand new musical romantic comedy that mines the rich period of the British Invasion! Following the fortunes of a young Peter Noone, the lead singer of Herman's Hermits, this exciting gem from Tony-winning director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell will feature over 20 songs from the charts at the time. So dig out your mini skirts and your best crushed velvet jackets and get ready for a hip new ride down memory lane!

Led by the Beatles, the British invasion of the 1960s was a burst of fashion, culture and rock and roll. Following the mop tops from Liverpool were scores of similar groups that included some of the era's still loved bands such as the Hermits, The Yardbirds, The Zombies, The Faces, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Manfred Man, and many, many more!

Why tell the story of Peter Noone if you're going to distort most aspects of it? You can't miss with the used in the show, and the musicians and singers are exceptional. Aside from Peter's youth, music, and association with the future greats of the British music scene, it's goofy. The idea of competing with Mick Jagger for Marianne Faithfull is silly, and the many anachronisms of the pay are annoying to anyone who remembers these times. Phrases and references, along with music that won't appear for many years to come appear throughout the show. For audience members who don't know anything about this era, they'll never know the difference, and the quality of the music is enough to carry the day. For others more savvy, they'll be rolling their eyes at the disco-era costumes and hairstyles, and the idea that the freedom of the 60s could be so perfectly choreographed. Don't get me started about the "trampoline" sex scene. The star of the show is Kyle Taylor Parker; he is amazing!! ... Read more
