It's finally happening! Dreamgirls is coming back to Broadway
The fan favorite musical is set to dazzle in a brand new revival in fall 2026
And we are telling you, you're gonna love it! After years of speculation, Dreamgirls will reign on Broadway once more in an exciting new production, directed and choreographed by Camille A. Brown.
One of the most anticipated revivals of recent years, Dreamgirls originally opened on Broadway back in 1981, taking home six Tonys, including one for Jennifer Holliday's performance as Effie White, a member of the fictional girl group at the show's center. In 2005, Dreamgirls made its way to Hollywood with the movie version starring Beyonc, Jennifer Hudson, and Anika Noni Rose, with Hudson scooping an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. A West End revival followed in 2016, with Amber Riley as Effie, opening to five-star reviews.
While fans have spent time crafting their own dream casts, with names like Audra, Amber, and more on hotlists, Brown and producers will be doing something different this time, launching auditions worldwide to find their stars!
Dates and venues are set to be announced in due course.
What Is The Story?
Loosely based on the story of Diana Ross and The Supremes, Dreamgirls follows a black girl group in the 1960s: Deena Jones, Lorrell Robinson, and Effie White (AKA The Dreamettes) as they try to make the big time.
After being discovered by ambitious agent Curtis Taylor, Jr, they find themselves as backup singers for the soul and rock 'n roll sensation James "Thunder" Early. With Curtis at the helm of their quickly rising career, dictating their every move. However, when the beautiful Deena emerges as the star of the group rather than the full-voiced Effie, the girls' rivalry leads to a personal and professional crossroads for the trio.
