Stranger Things: The First Shadow has turned the West End upside down since its 2023 debut at London's Pheonix Theatre, bagging itself an Olivier Award, numerous nominations, and now, a portal to Broadway. The First Shadow will begin previews on 28 March 2025 at the Marquis Theatre, with its official opening night on 22 April 2025.
What Is The Story?
Set in 1959, The First Shadow delves into the early days of Hawkins, featuring younger versions of beloved characters like Jim Hopper, Joyce Maldonado, and Bob Newby. The plot thickens as new student Henry Creel arrives at the scene, harboring a dark secret and a family history that is impossible to escape.
What We Know About Stranger Things on Broadway
Based on an original story by the Duffer Brothers, Jack Thorne, and Kate Trefry, and deeply rooted in the mythology and world of the global Netflix phenomenon, Stranger Things: The First Shadow is a new play penned by Kate Trefry. It is directed by Stephen Daldry, with Justin Martin as co-director.
The production boasts set design by Miriam Buether, costume design by Brigitte Reiffenstuel, lighting design by Jon Clark, and sound design by Paul Arditti. DJ Walde handles original music composition, orchestration, arrangements, and supervision. The illusions and visual effects are crafted by Jamie Harrison and Chris Fisher, while 59 Productions contributes to video design and visual effects. Choreography is by Coral Messam, movement direction by Lynne Page, and wigs, hair, and make-up design by Campbell Young Associates. Technical direction is provided by Gary Beestone for Gary Beestone Associates, with casting by Jim Carnahan.
