Story of visionary artist comes to Vineyard Theater this February
Pulitzer Prize winner Beth Henley teams up with critically acclaimed director Martha Clarke for this extraordinary story of artistic genius, opening at the Vineyard Theater this February. Exploring the singular mind of prolific artist Henry Darger, Bughouse stars Obie Award winner John Kelly and is a stirring tribute to one of the 20th century's great visionaries.
In a tiny apartment in Chicago, janitor Henry Darger has created something extraordinary. He lives surrounded by his artwork - fantasy works featuring battles, mystical warriors, ethereal landscapes. A whole other world of his own making, onyl for him, that he can escape into. Making use of Darger's own writings, Bughouse dives into the mind of an extraordinary artist, exploring what makes us strive to be creative, whether for an audience or just for ourselves.
