Why see The Apple Boys?
Uplifting Gilded Age Comedy Musical
This spirited Gilded Age-set musical makes its Off-Broadway debut at the Duke on 42nd Street! Capturing the vibrant spirit of old-New York, The Apple Boys has a book written by actor and writer Jonothon Lyons (Little Shop of Horrors) and music and lyrics by Fred Ebb Awardee Ben Bonnema. Led by director David Alpert (If/Then) with choreography by Marc Kimelman (Masquerade), and a producing unit led by Tony Award winner LaChanze and Johnnie Hawkins, this uplifting musical turns a fight for an orchard's survival into a comical celebration of working class community.
What Is The Story?
Taking us back to the evocative era of Gilded Age Coney Island, Jack Chapman III - grandson of folk hero Johnny Appleseed - faces a sudden threat to his belived family orchard from a greedy landlord who schemes to seize the land. But they won’t go down without a fight; Jack rallies a group of his loyal, working class friends to stand their ground through the most unlikely method possible: winning a singing contest! With just four actors taking on more than forty characters, there'll be laughs aplenty in this catchy and inspiring musical.
