A seminal work brought to the stage
Why see Girl, Interrupted?
World Premiere
Pulitzer Prize winner Martyna Majok (Cost of Living) reimagines Girl, Interrupted for the stage in an off-Broadway world premiere. Adapted from Susanna Kaysen's seminal memoir and directed by Jo Bonney (Cost of Living), the production features an original score by Grammy Award-winning artist Aimee Mann and choreography by Tony Award winner Sonya Tayeh (Moulin Rouge!). A landmark work of twentieth-century literature, Girl, Interrupted's stage debut comes following the 1999 film of the same name, which won countless awards for its raw and honest depictions of mental illness.
What Is It About?
Set in the late 1960s and based on true events, the play follows Susanna shortly after landing in a women's psychiatric ward. Within the confines of the hospital, Susanna forms uneasy bonds and profound friendships with fellow patients, each grappling with her own version of reality.
