Forged from the prolific partnership of Jerome Robbins and Leonard Bernstein, West Side Story leaped from the Broadway stage to become a celebrated silver screen feature in 1961. The seminal musical broke records when it won an astounding ten out of eleven Academy Awards, the most ever garnered by a movie musical, and in 2021 received a new adaptation by Steven Spielberg, with composer David Newman breathing new life into Bernstein's soaring, jazz-infused score. Experience it live during this special screening of the film, accompanied by a live orchestra - the premiere of this particular score being performed live to screen.

Based on the iconic Shakespearean tragedy Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story transports the action to the Upper West Side of New York. The conflict centers on two rival street gangs, the white Jets led by Riff and the Puerto Rican Sharks led by Bernardo. Amidst the escalating violence and hatred between them, Bernardo's younger sister Maria and Riff's best friend Tony fall in love with tragic consequences for all.
