New York Philharmonic - Schubert's Great Symphony

New York Philharmonic - Schubert's Great Symphony at David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center

Why see New York Philharmonic - Schubert's Great Symphony?

Immensley full of life and wit

Created in a fit of zeal three years before his untimely death at the age of just 31, Schubert's 'Great' Symphony has, since the late 19th century, been hailed as just that. Grand and full of flourish (and the odd cheeky allusion to the gigantic influence of Beethoven) it is the composer's most fresh and perennial reminder of his wit, ability, and artistry.

Known to have had contemporary Robert Schumann in raptures, 'I have been in seventh heaven' said he after his first experience of it. Judge for yourself when the New York Philharmonic undertake the challenge, under the watchful eye of Jaap Van Zweden.
