Why see New York Philharmonic - Gustavo Dudamel and Yunchan Lim?

An International Prodigy

South Korean prodigious pianist Yunchan Lim returns to the stage in North America, showcasing the mind-boggling virtuosic skill that has seen him become an international star despite his young age. His sparkling talent first came to international attention in 2022 when he became the youngest ever gold medalist at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, with global acclaim and touring rightly following.

Celebrate the start of Gustavo Dudamel's season as Music & Artistic Director Designate with a program spanning America's musical landscape. Marking 250 years since the nation's founding, the evening features the World Premiere of of light and stone by Kanaka Maoli composer Leilehua Lanzilotti, Ives's bold Symphony No. 2, and Bartok's Piano Concerto No. 3 with Yunchan Lim.

Yunchan's reputation as a child prodigy had been steadily growing up until that point, having been the youngest ever participant in the Thomas & Evon Cooper International Competition at the age of 14 and winning the South Korean ISANGYUN competition aged 15. Both before and since his breakout the young virtuoso has appeared as a soloist with leading orchestras around the world, including the New York Philharmonic, Tokyo Philharmonic and Korea Symphony. Be sure to take this opportunity to see this raw talent at work.
