New York Philharmonic - Grieg's Piano Concerto Featuring Thibaudet

Conducted by Herbert Blomstedt
Why see New York Philharmonic - Grieg's Piano Concerto Featuring Thibaudet?
I have written a concerto for piano and orchestra, which I do believe has some good qualities.
- Edvard Greig
Edvard Greig's contribution to the classical canon is roundly celebrated by the Philharmonic and guest Pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet in this delicious program that that begins by sweeping us into a desert tinged with Norweigan flavor in Peer Gynt, and ends with his ebullient Piano Concerto, composed when he was aged just 25!
Much has been made of Greig's impact, with his influence felt across popular culture, from Duke Ellington to Disney. But it doesn't stop there - in Greig's hometown of Bergen, Norway, the tram plays the first notes of his Piano Concerto when it stops at Hop, the station nearest where he lived.
