Why see Music Across Borders: Animals into Song - The Cunning Little Vixen?

Take A Fantastical Journey With The New York Phil

Tailor-made for children age six and upwards, the New York Philharmonic's Young People Concert series aims to inspire and engage young minds with live performances of iconic classical pieces. Traditionally held on a Saturday afternoon, the concerts were first televised during Leonard Bernstein's landmark tenure as the orchestra's music director and have since evolved to become enthralling, multi-media events for all the family.

The NY Phil presents Janacek's extraordinary opera The Cunning Vixen and Dvorak's fantastical Rusalka as part of their 2018/19 Music Across Borders season, which exclusively features programming of works that blur the lines between fantasy and reality, inviting its young listeners on an aural adventure to magical realms that exist across space and time. The Cunning Vixen is a reflection of the natural world's awe and wonder, vividly telling the tale of a smart female fox who is captured by a gamekeeper, whilst Rusalka journeys to the enchanted depths of a water kingdom inhabited by a water nymph who falls in love with a human.
