No season is complete without a rousing performance of Carl Orff's lustful and triumphant Carmina Burana and its showstopping O Fortuna chorus. Originally derived from a series of Medieval poems, Carmina Burana has become one of the most exhilarating live experiences to be found in concert halls across the world and as one not to be missed whenever it's performed.
Originally derived from a series of twenty four Medieval poems, Carmina Burana was composed by Austrian Carl Orff in 1935-36 and first performed at the Frankfurt Opera a year later. The cantata is part of a tryptych that includes Catulli Carmina and Trionfo di Afrodite, and is instantly recognisable for its opening and closing section O Fortuna which is a staple dramatic piece for all major classical choruses around the world.
