Living up to its patron venue's namesake, the Count Basie Summer Jazz Festival is back for another year, bringing together the brightest names in jazz, from the old school, like Micheal Franks and Lee Ritenour & Dave Grusin to the new. Day 2 of the rapidly-growing festival features headliners Snarky Puppy, Esperanza Spalding and Moon Child.
Following a highly praised appearance at last year's gathering, three-time Grammy Award-winning soul and funk collective Snarky Puppy mark their return to the Count Basie Theater stage with a rumoured brand new album on the horizon. A revolving line-up based around the composition wizardry of bandleader and bassist Michael League, the innovative outfit are known for electrifying, virtuosic performances filled with satisfying, in-the-pocket grooves, rich melodies and flights of improvisational genius.
