Why see The Amish Project?
Jonathan Groff Stars
The acclaimed stage and screen actor Jonathan Groff (Merrily We Roll Along; Spring Awakening) heads back to the New York stage in this solo show, The Amish Project, directed by Sarna Lapine (Sunday in the Park with George). The Broadway debut for playwright Jessica Dickey, the play originally premiered Off-Broadway back in 2009 following a critically lauded run at the New York International Fringe Festival. Now an in-demand play with productions across America and Internationally, Jonathan Groff is the perfect star for this long-awaited Broadway run - the piece tells the story of real events that took place near his childhood home in Pennsylvania.
What is it about?
Performed entirely by a single actor, The Amish Project follows a quiet Amish community rocked by tragedy, and its extraordinary ability to move forward. Inspired by the real-life events of the West Nickel Mines school shooting, the aftermath sees the community finding empathy and the ability to forgive in even the most shocking of circumstances, placing reconciliation above retribution in their darkest hour.
