The inimitable talent that is Glenn Close returns to the stage for the World Premiere of this brand new play from fellow Emmy Award-winner Jane Anderson, exploring the life of Isabelle Arc (nee Romee), the mother of history's most famous and extraordinary martyr, Joan of Arc.
Promising to be an epic affair, The Mother of the Maid delves into the struggle of Isabelle as her faith is tested by her daughter's incredible abilities and uncompromising spirit.
Born in North Eastern France in 1377, Isabelle was said to be a modest woman who instilled relgion and the value of hard work into all her children. After Joan rose to prominence and was convicted of heresy, she put all of her efforts into clearing her daughter's name, including an impassioned performance at seventy years old before the Holy See that led to Joan's pardon in 1456. Imbued with massive strength and determination to see justice righted, Isabelle's efforts are likely one of the reasons that her daughter's legacy survives to this day.
