disppointed
I've belonged to The Public for many years and loved most plays there, but "Mother of the Maid" was a big disappointment, despite the perfect acting, sets, and costumes. The language was so pedestrian and the characters so predictable (?!) that it made one of the richest and most amazing of all historical events one that had me checking my watch often. There were no surprises, no compelling words, no detail, no beauty, no verisimilitude, no reason to care very much at all. My expectations were high, but not overly so. Nothing in the play came alive for me, much as I love and cherish stage drama. (I'm famous for urging everyone I know to see "Hamilton" very early. But this is the first time I've been distressed enough to complain.)
