All is Calm reviews
The poignant musical triumphs once again as it returns for 2018.
During the Christmas of 1914, the guns of the trenches fell silent to allow a thread of humanity to shine. Beginning with the sound of one German soldier singing 'Stille Nacht', the men on both sides were compelled to step into No Man's Land and celebrate the season alongside the men they had been fighting. Based on a true story, All is Calm distills this remarkable occurrence into a poignant musical that honors these men and the peace they found on one day of the Great War.'
Now showing at The Sheen Center's Loretto Theatre, critics have contributed glowing reviews to Peter Rothstein's production, led by the New Yorker, who deemed it "A heartbreaking tribute to the men, who, in defiance of their commanders had the courage to affirm their common humanity."
Further praise came from both the New York Theatre review who called it: "Relatively simple in its staging with only ten men... a sincerely affecting music-theater work that resonates with beautiful singing" and Time Out New York who highlighted the contribution of these brave men, commenting "it does suggest that onto that muddy patch of land, the first step toward a common future was bravely made — not by the great men of Europe, but by the little guys, whose posterity should be eternally grateful."
Running through December 30, don't miss your chance to experience this unforgettable piece of history in this historic centenary year.
