The Reviews For BIGFOOT! Are In!

Kevin, March 4th, 2026

BIGFOOT! has arrived with a stomp!

Did critics believe there's something out there in the woods... or does BIGFOOT! remain a myth? Created by Amber Ruffin (lyrics and book), David A. Schmoll (music), and Kevin Sciretta (book), and directed and choreographed by Danny Mefford, BIGFOOT! has arrived in New York.

The new musical comedy is leaving some big footprints Off-Broadway.

Set in the glow-in-the-dark town of Muddirt, somewhere between a chemical dump and a nuclear plant, BIGFOOT! follows a story filled with corrupt politicians, small-town paranoia, and one very tall, misunderstood teen. Grey Henson stars as Bigfoot himself, alongside Crystal Lucas-Perry, Katerina McCrimmon, Alex Moffat, and Jason Tam.

BIGFOOT! CRITIC REVIEWS

"Bigfoot! is a furry, funky love letter to misfits, packed with kooky characters, 80s synth-pop charm, and a heart bigger than its leading man's footprint." - 1 Minute Critic

"This production's six-person ensemble is its strongest asset, giving 110 percent to put over the show's funny-enough but rarely side-splitting book (penned by Kevin Scirette and Amber Ruffin) and merely serviceable score (co-credited to Ruffin and David Schmoll.). Indeed, for the second time this season the first being the brilliant Off-Broadway revival of "The 25th Annual Putnam Counting Spelling Bee" director and choreographer Danny Mefford has shown the keenest of eyes in matching actors to characters." - Culture Sauce

"Still, "Bigfoot" has something to offer. Maybe there is even some political significance, since it is explicitly set in the 1980s and there is a reference to Reagan era trickle-down economics. What's clearer is the well-meaning and warm-hearted social message: Everybody deserves to belong." - New York Theater

"Do any of these antics add dimension to the show's ham-fisted commentary on capitalist greed and proletarian rage? No. But let's not forget this is a musical called Bigfoot! Silliness is what we were promised, and silliness is what we get." - Theatermania

"Yes, Bigfoot! is massive camp. But it's camp with teeth. Beneath the laughs is a morality play about how easily societies turn fear into spectacle, and how quickly a "monster" is created when it's politically convenient. This is a high-energy, laugh-packed musical comedy that knows exactly what it's doing and does it with an absurdly talented cast." - Times Square Chronicles

"The pastiche score for "Bigfoot!" is superior to Laurence O'Keefe's pastiche score for "Bat Boy." Ruffin and Schmoll have written at least one real keeper, the love duet "When You Come Around," which is more about being friends than lovers for reasons that will not be disclosed here. Also, with material as twee as cute monsters, shorter is better. There, the 90-minute "Bigfoot!" easily beats the two-and-half-hour "Bat Boy."" - The Wrap
