A thanksgiving treat
Full of men, myths, magic and monsters, Rameau's Dardanus wasn't a very well received opera on its premiere due to its 'weak plot', but it was one of the composer's most rich musically and has lived on as an enduring jewel and captivating example of the very best of the Baroque period.
Steeped in Ancient Roman mythology, Rameau captures the sprawling life of Dardanus, son of Jupiter, as he wars with his mortal enemy for the heart of the woman he loves, who just happens to be the daughter of this nemesis. Sorcery and sea monsters play their part alongside inspired melodies to unite the lovers.
Imaginative and inspiring, Emmanuelle Haim steps up to the podium to lead the orchestra for this fun Saturday Matinee.
