Why see New York Philharmonic - Alice Sara Ott Performs Ravel?

Star Pianist

The unfathomably talented Japanese-German pianist Alice Sara Ott joins the New York Philharmonic Orchestra for the first time, performing Maurice Ravel's soulful, jazz and folk influenced Piano Concerto in G Major. Conducted by fellow NY debutant Karina Canellakis, the orchestra will also recite a varied program of pieces, with Strauss's Tod und Verklarung (Death and Transfiguration)Scriabin's La Poeme de l'Extase and Anton Webern's Six Pieces for Orchestra.

Born in Munich to a Japanese pianist and a German engineer, Alice Sara Ott won Germany's prestigious Jugend Musiziert competition aged just seven, followed by becoming the youngest finalist in the 2002 edition of Japan's Hamamatsu International Piano Competition. Her adult life has seen her release an extensive catalog of recordings via the Deutsche Grammaphon record label and, despite being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2019, has continued a prolific stream of recordings and international live performances, including most recently a well received collection of Beethoven works.
