Why See On the Exhale?
Staring Down The Barrel of A Gun
Tony nominee Marin Ireland (reasons to be pretty, Hell or High Water) stars in Martin Zimmerman's exploration of gun violence in America. Produced as part of Roundabout Theatre's Roundabout Underground program, On the Exhale is a startling one woman play about a mother who suffers a horrible loss at the hands of a gunman, yet feels herself inexplicably drawn to the shooting range. As timely as it is vital, On the Exhale examines one of our nation's most pressing issues, and asks if we're all to blame for the problem?
What is On The Exhale About?
A liberal college professor's life is ripped apart when her son is killed in a school shooting. Inconsolable with grief, she discovers that her local shooting range offers her a way of coping with the tragedy. Shooting off round after round becomes a carthatic experience, a way to regain some sense of power and independence, as well as presenting her with a twisted connection to her son's last moments. As she becomes more and more obsessed with hearing the trigger click, she taps into the powerful allure that guns hold for America.
