Man of La Mancha starring tenor Rolando Villazn
The Lincoln Center Theater is holding their spring Gala with a staged concert performance of Man of La Mancha starring internationally acclaimed tenor Rolando Villazn as Cervantes / Don Quxiote. Based on the book by Dale Wasserman, Man of La Mancha is a play within a play that tells the story of writer and prisoner Miguel de Cervantes who persuades his fellow inmates to perform his manuscript in a bid to avoid feeling their wrath. How far can fantasy go to overcome the harshness of reality?
The story made its stage debut in Connecticut's Goodspeed Opera House in 1965 and went on to receive several awards and nominations. It received five Tony Awards as well as being nominated for three Tony Awards and two Drama Desk Awards for the 2002 Broadway revival.
