"With four actors wearing - literally, at times - multiple hats, this loving sendup is part madcap romance, part mistaken-identity thriller, and pure absurdity."

39 Steps returns to New York to thrill audiences all over again with its charming tomfoolery and edge of your seat thrills. A loving spoof of Alfred Hitchcock's classic movie from 1935, this madcap adventure centers on the character of Richard Hannay, who finds himself entangled in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with a shadowy organization called '39 Steps'.
While the story originated with the novel by John Buchan, this production takes most of its cues from the Hitchcock version, gleefully riffing on a whole bunch of the director's other movies along the way. Adapted by Patrick Barlow, it first ran in New York from 2008 to 2011, playing over 700 wildly received performances. The show features a cast of just four, who portray the story's 100 plus different characters through the use of props, lightening quick costume changes and unbelievable theatrical verve.
Richard Hannay is having a smashing time at the theatre when gun shots ring out. In the ensuing chaos the beautiful Annabella Schmidt falls into his arms and pleads with him to take her back to his flat. Once there she tells him that she's a spy who has uncovered a plot to steal British military secrets, enacted by a shadowy organisation named '39 Steps', who are now trying to kill her. And so begins Hannay's adventure, one which will take him across the country, pursued by spies, assassins, and the police. Can he escape all their clutches?
