A ruthless music instructor and a young student are the focus of Damien Chazelle's 2014 Academy Award-winning Whiplash, performed in concert at the Orpheum this Fall. Featuring the two-time Academy Award-winner Justin Hurwitz at the podium and an 18-piece live Jazz band playing live to screen, the movie comes to life in a vibrant display of exhilarating percussion as Miles Teller's Andrew is pushed to his limit against JK Simmons as Fletcher, his strict teacher, and his relentless methods.
A psychological battle set against a cacophony of incredible drum solos, Whiplash follows Andrew as he enters an ultra-competitive music conservatory and meets Terrance Fletcher, the school's bandleader, and his cut-throat teaching technique. With success coming at the price of his family and relationships, Fletcher pushes Andrew increasingly to his breaking point, leading to an simmering showdown.
