Award-winning Off-Broadway company The New Group strengthens its commitment to the development of groundbreaking contemporary theater with a diverse new 2018/19 season program, including a the world premiere of Jeremy O' Harris' Daddy. Helmed by up and coming young director Danya Taymor, the hotblooded drama stars Tony-winning stage and film veteran Alan Cummings as the titular 'sugar daddy' figure.
Following O' Harris' provocative, visceral examination of race, gender and sexuality in his heavy-hitter Slave Play, the exciting playwright now explores questions of age, love and the bonds of family. His story follows a young artist named Franklin, whose instant erotic connection to Andre, a wealthy older man, evolves from forbidden fetish/"patronage" to something deeper. But Franklin's deeply religious mother enters a battle of wills with Andre when she decides the soul of her son hangs in the balance.
