Antigone

Fusion Theatre add opera to the mythic tale
Why see Antigone?
A Unique Take
Fusion Theatre presents a bold new staging of Antigone, that fuses the powerful tale of rebellion with selections from five operas. The cast, all of whom are opera singer as well as stage actors, are led by Eilin O'Dea, who also directs. Among the opera pieces featured are works from Verdi and Purcell.
Written by Jean Anouilh during the Nazi occupation of France, and inspired by Sophocles' play of the same name, the story of Antigone follows the daughter of Oedipus as she puts her life on the line by defying the proclamation of King Creon that her dead brother should not be allowed a proper burial. Exploring themes of defiance and authoritarianism, Antigone seems to grow more relevant every day.
