Elmer Rice's masterpiece returns to New York this April
Elmer Rice's seminal, and shockingly prescient, classic returns to New York over 100 years after its original Broadway run, opening at the Theater at St Clements this April! Following an accountant who is forced on a spiritual journey after he's replaced by a machine, The Adding Machine is an Expressionist masterpiece exploring what makes us human.
Mr Zero has been working as an accountant at the same bland company for 25 years. He thinks he's content. But when his job is replaced by a machine, something hidden within him suddenly snaps. After taking murderous retribution for this replacement, Zero finds himself swept along on a spiritual awakening. Now given a purpose in a setting as close to Heaven as he could get, will Zero re-discover the meaning of his life and make his way back down to Earth?
