JAMIE LLOYD REVIVES THE EFFECT

Lucy Prebble's The Effect was the toast of London on its West End debut in 2012, picking up the UK Critics Choice Award for Best New Play. Now returning to New York in this stunning revival from The Jamie Lloyd Company with a strictly limited run at The Shed's Griffin Theatre with the incredible Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You, Hamlet) and Taylor Russell (Bones and All) reprising their roles from London's National Theatre run alongside Kobna Holdbrook-Smith and Michele Austin.

What is the story?

Connie and Tristan are two guinea pigs testing a new drug RLU37. It's an antidepressant, which is of particular interest to their depression-prone supervising psychiatrist Dr Lorna James. As the test continues, RLU37 seems to have some rather unforeseen effect - Connie and Tristan fall madly in love with each other. While Lorna's boss is jubilant that they might have discovered 'a Viagra for the heart', she's skeptical whether the couple's romance is chemically influenced at all. And if it is, does that make it any less real or true for the people involved?
