Sense & Sensibility

"No troupe in New York these days rides the storytelling momentum of theater more resourcefully or enthusiastically than Bedlam."

Why see Sense & Sensibility?
21st Century Austen
Austen has always been funny...but never quite this funny. Bedlam Theatre once again offer up their hilarious spin on the author's 1811 masterpiece. Adapted by Kate Hamill, this show boils the novel down its basic plot elements and reinvents it as a whirlwind display of theatrical dexterity, with only 10 actors jumping in and out of costumes at an incredible rate to play the story's 25 plus characters.
Bedlam last presented Sense and Sensibility in 2014 to ecstatic reviews. Original director Erik Tucker returns for this 2016 limited run. Bringing the story's humour to the fore, this is the perfect show for anyone who thinks Austen is all sedate drawing rooms and stuffiness.
What is Sense and Sensibility About?
The story centers on a pair of sisters, Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, living in late 19th Century England. Elinor is the older and more reserved of the two, while Marianne is a free spirit who pushes against the constraints of polite society. We follow them as they move to a cottage in the countryside with their mother, and meet the various suitors who turn up at their door.
