Ismael Loutfi's heartfelt one-person show opens Off Broadway this April
Critically acclaimed comic Ismael Loutfi explores fatherly relationships in this hilarious and touching one-person show, opening Off Broadway at the SoHo Playhouse this April! Focused around his dad and his deeply held Muslim faith, Heavenly Baba mixes storytelling with stand-up to craft a loving, complex and blisteringly funny ode to parents and identity.
Ismael Loutfi's father, known by loved ones as Baba, knew exactly who he was. Immigrating to America didn't dim his strong sense of his Muslim faith, something that he strived to pass on to his kids. Loutfi looks back on the impact his father had on his childhood, and the nuances and complexities of an American upbringing rubbing up against their family's religion. By turns deeply heartfelt and hilarious, Loutfi reveals the love of his dad in all its contradictory forms.
