Why see Galileo?
Broadway Premiere
Galileo arrives on Broadway following its world premiere at Berkeley Rep in 2024, setting a contemporary rock score to the life of one of history's most consequential thinkers! Featuring a book by Emmy Award winner Danny Strong (Chess) and music and lyrics by Zoe Sarnak and Michael Weiner, the musical features Raul Esparza (Company) leading the production in the title role, reprising his earlier performance in the world premiere, alongside Jeremy Kushnier and Joy Woods. Directed by the returning Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening) and with choreography by David Neumann (Hadestown), don't miss Galileo on Broadway!
What is the Story?
The musical follows the historical Italian scientist Galileo Galilei's transformation from respected academic to scientific revolutionary, as his important astronomical discoveries challenged beliefs which entire power systems were built upon. As his observations of the heavens disrupt the established order, he finds himself entangled in a mounting conflict between empirical truth and institutional authority.
