Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tracy Letts returns with his brand-new drama Mary Page Marlowe in the summer of 2018, having premiered at Chicago's Steppenwolf in 2016. With his works August: Osage County, Linda Vista and The Minutes all having been staged at the esteemed theatre group, this New York transfer follows the life story of one woman in Ohio, through 12 different periods of her life. Played by 6 different actresses, Mary is a meek accountant in Ohio with two children, living a life that few would expect to be as intricate or moving as it is.
Her choices, both mundane and gripping, have taken her life to extreme highs to lows throughout the decades. Starting with her birth in the days following World War II, her journey took her through college, marriage, children and divorce, finally leading to a career as an accountant. Her mistakes, often crippling in their size and seriousness form only part of the path that she has taken; the complexity of her life is also made by those choices that others made, and directly affected her.
The writer of the Pulitzer Prize-winning August: Osage County, Letts is a regular contributor to Chicago's Tony Award-Winning Steppenwolf Theatre; the thrilling play
had audiences riveted and critics raving, having been hailed by The New York Times as "hugely entertaining! A ripsnorter full of blistering, funny dialogue, acid-etched characters and scenes of no-holds-barred emotional combat."
