Legendary Feminist Playwright

The little known gem by American Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Susan Glaspell is uncovered and brought back to the stage off-Broadway by Jessie Austrian, starring Tony Award-winning actress Miriam Silverman (The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window). Glaspell, co-founder founder of the famous bohemian theatre collective the Provincetown Players, wrote this masterpiece about a well-bred botanist's rally against the societal bounds that bind her, in 1921, nine years before she would go on to win the Pulitzer. The work is an important part of the road towards her place in history as a pioneer of feminist writing and theatre, and well worth witnessing in this excellent revival.

What Is The story?

Claire Archer is a botanist dedicating herself to experimenting with plants, looking to make a breakthrough with creating a brand new species. But when her spouse, a fling, and the man she really connects with on a deeper level all arrive, the greenhouse where she undertakes her work becomes a theater of intellectual battle; her wish to help a plant break free from its biological form becoming a metaphor for her own radical battle to break away from the societal chains defining who she is.
