Tender new drama opens for Off Broadway premiere in May 2026
Critically acclaimed playwright John J Caswell Jr's fascinating and delicate new drama has its Off-Broadway premiere, playing at the Judith O Rubin Theater this May. Focusing on a couple during the AIDS epidemic whose quiet life in rural Arizona gets unexpectedly interrupted, Jerome is a powerful, funny, and tender story of connection and survival in a brutal world.
In the tiny, secluded rural Arizona town of Jerome, Con and Doane - a gay couple - have crafted a life of peace and comfort where they only need each other. But the AIDS epidemic is reaching its peak, and the outside world cannot be shut out forever. As their quiet life is suddenly upended by the arrival of a desperate stranger on the run from his past, Con and Doane will realize that connection is more of a necessity than they thought. Survival is a tricky thing, after all.
