The Outsider

The Outsider at Paper Mill Playhouse

Why see The Outsider?

in politics, the less you know, the higher you'll go.

A new political satire is on the horizon at Paper Mill Playhouse, as part of its enviable 2017/18 season lineup. A timely and potentially pointed comedy that takes aim at useless politicians (ahem), P a u l Sl a d e Smith follows up from his incisive 2006 comedy Unnecessary Farce with this new work that is expected to raise blood pressures in the West Wing when it premieres in early 2018. A celebration of democracy and a brazen shot across the bows of useless politicians, this is the comedy to see.

Meet Ned Newley, the most unlikely political candidate ever to (dis)grace the American stage. Terrified of public speaker, this newly elected Governor doesn't even want the job, let alone care about his poll numbers. Despite his loyal star members' efforts to keep him out of trouble, he seems destined to screw up. But when a savvy political fixer (think Eli Gold from the Good Wife) appears on the scene, he just might find a way to turn Ned's faults into his greatest assets. Probably.
