Two-time Oscar winner Robert De Niro co-directs a brand new musical adaptation of A Bronx Tale. Based on writer Chazz Palminteri's one man show, the story revolves around an Italian-American kid in the 1960's Bronx who is drawn into the world of organised crime, much to the dismay of his bus driver father.
The play first played Los Angeles in 1990, before moving onto a successful Off-Broadway run. This new adaptation will be co-directed by four-time Tony winner Jerry Zaks (Six Degrees of Separation), while the music comes courtesy of Tony and Oscar winner Alan Menken (Newsies).
This will be the second time that De Niro has directed A Bronx Tale, as he helmed (and starred) in the 1993 movie adaptation, alongside Palminteri. His last venture into theatre was way back in 1986, when he played the lead role in Cuba and His Teddybear on Broadway.
