Following the journey of Viveca who always felt different from her white peers from kindergarten and all throughout her life, she moves away from suburban Los Angeles and her life as a dutiful daughter, to the bright lights of Broadway, hoping to make it as a dancer, all while facing prejudice and obstacles due to her face. Navigating the ever-changing politics of race and class, she finally learns to be herself in a world that is predominantly white-centered.
