The Canadian-born, Japan-trained traditional Rakugo comedian Katsura Sunshine brings his hilarious show to New York! One of only two Westerners ever to have formally completed their apprenticeship and become masters of the ancient Japanese art of comic storytelling (and the first in a century at that) Katsura Sunshine brings Rakugo to English-language audiences, spreading the joy and hilarity of a timeless artform that has captivated Japanese theatregoers for hundreds of years!
Rakugo is a form of verbal comedy in which the speaker tells comical stories while in a kneeling position at the center of the stage, performing the different characters in the story using only a handful of small props and changes in the tone of their voice, with everything leading up to a hilarious punchline. Having trained under the famous Rakugo master Katsura Bunshi VI, Katsura Sunshine - born Gregory Robic in Toronto, Ontario - has become hugely popular both in Japan and around the world for his ability and charm as a "Rakugoka", with comical stories, cultural explanations and his observations as a Westerner in Japan providing delight. Don't miss his show!
