Why see Cold War Choir Practice?
NY Times Critics Pick
Hailed by the New York Times as a Critics Pick during its 2025 run, Cold War Choir Practice is an imaginative new play by Ro Reddick (Throwback Island), brought to the stage under the direction of Tony-nominated Knud Adams (English). Conjuring a late-Cold War atmosphere replete with political anxiety as a backdrop to a story unfolding in a retro-style ice rink, it's a standout work exploring just what we'd do for the people we love.
What Is The Story?
As the Reagan era wanes and nuclear dread lurks in the background, a young girl's holiday routine is upended when her uncle, a high-profile Black conservative, arrives home with his sick wife. What begins as an uneasy family reunion spirals into a web of something much bigger, all taking place against the unlikely refuge of a children's choir rehearsal.
