The Babylon Line

The Babylon Line at Mitzi E Newhouse Theater

Why see The Babylon Line?

Starring Josh Radnor

Stage and screen star Josh Radnor (How I Met Your Mother, Disgraced) leads the cast of this new play from Tony-winning playwright Richard Greenburg (Take Me Out, Our Mother's Brief Affair). Known for his subversive portraits of middle class America, Greenburg's latest play The Babylon Line is a drama about striving for artistic freedom and unexpected sources of inspiration. The show held its world premiere in 2014 at Vassar College, in a production also starring Radnor. This Off-Broadway staging is directed by Steppenwolf co-founder Terry Kinney.

What is The Babylon Line About?

He may have big literary ambitions, but novelist Aaron Port also needs to make some money. Every week he takes the train from his home in the village, which he shares with his wife, to a college in Levittown, where he teaches an adult creative writing class. Most of the students are pleasant but uninspiring suburban housewives, but one pupil, Joan Dellamond, stands out from the crowd. She is undoubtedly a special talent, an untapped well of infinite writerly abilities. Aaron and Joan form an immediate connection, a bond which takes their creativity to whole new levels, but can the pair keep their relationship strictly professional?
