For the first time since its 1986 premiere, The Metropolitan Opera present Anthony Davis and Thurlani Davis' powerful retelling of the influential ministers' life and career. In a new staging from Tony-nominated director Robert O'Hara, Anthony Davis' newly revised jazz infused-score underpins a cast of some of the Met's brightest young stars including Will Liverman as Malcolm X, alongside Leah Hawkins, Raehann Bryce-Davis, Michael Sumuel, and Victor Ryan Robertson.
What is the story?
One of the most recognizable Civil Rights activists of his time, Malcolm X found Islam after ending up in prison as a young man. From there he became a vocal and influential advocate of both Islam and the Civil Rights movement, until his assassination in 1965.
