Metropolitan Opera - Samson and Delilah

Metropolitan Opera - Samson and Delilah at Metropolitan Opera House

Why see Metropolitan Opera - Samson and Delilah?

Saint-Saens' Operatic Epic Samson & Delilah

Comprised of some of the most exquisite musical moments in French opera, Camille Saint-Saens' Samson and Delilah is his most commonly performed work of the genre. Experience its sumptuous, sweeping romance at the Met's exciting world premiere of Tony winning Broadway director Darko Tresnjak's new production, featuring the palpable on-stage chemistry of celebrated Latvian mezzo-soprano Elina Granca and French tenor Roberto Alagna.

Samson and Delilah tells the story of the biblical parable, in which Israelite leader Samson becomes a thorn in the side of local Philistine ruler Abimelech's side when he incites rebellion amongst the Hebrew slaves. Blessed by God with incredible strength, Samson courts tragedy when he is ensnared by the beauty of Dagon priestess Delilah, leading to a breath-taking aural and visual climax in the opera's final act.
