Opera adaptation of Booker Prize-winner
The Metropolitan Opera stages this adaptation of the Booker Prize-winning novel by George Saunders this fall! Lincoln in the Bardo features music composed by American Grammy-nominated composer Missy Mazzoli, with a libretto written by Pulitzer Prize-winner Royce Vavrek (Angels Bone) and stars Peter Mattei as Lincoln. Conducted by Yannick Nezet-Seguin, Lincoln in the Bardo provides an ethereal portrait of one of the American greats timed perfectly for the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America!
An adaptation of George Saunders' piece of experimental fiction, Lincoln in the Bardo places us in a space in between life and death, where the souls of people who cannot come to terms with their fate may end up trapped forever. The eleven-year-old son of Abraham Lincoln is in this space, with Abe's visits to his grave preventing his spirit from passing over. Supernatural and superlatively haunting, this is a portrait of a president like you've not seen before.
