Why see Metropolitan Opera - La Sonnambula?
A Rare Outing For Bellini's Dreamy Opera
Vincenzo Bellini's hauntingly lyrical score soars while La Sonnambula's dual elements of sleep and wakefulness intertwine in tenor-turned-director Rolando Villazon's emotional new staging of the rare 18th-century gem, coming to the Metropolitan Opera House this fall. Starring Nadine Sierra as the La Sonnambula, Amina (the sleepwalking girl), join the Met Opera for an unforgettable journey into the realm of dreams that Amina frequents on a nightly basis.
What Is The Story?
Set in an unnamed village in the Swiss Alps, the action begins with rejoicing as the beloved Amina prepares to marry Elvino. As the town celebrates, only Lisa, Elvino's broken-hearted ex-fiancee, stays silent, seething at the universal acceptance of the innocent Amina. However, the celebrations can't continue after nightfall, as the villagers must shield themselves from a mysterious phantom that walks among them every evening, bringing fear in its wake. But with the arrival of a stranger who claims to know the village well, all their fates might be about to change. Will he help or hinder?
