Why see Metropolitan Opera: Ernani?

Three men compete for the fair Elvira's hand. Don Carlo The King, Silvio, a knight and Ernani, a thief. In due course, her honor is fought over valiantly and often, leading to tragedy. Based on a story by Victor Hugo, Ernani became one of Verdi's most popular plays in his lifetime, continuing to into the present day.

This Met Opera production will star the acclaimed Spanish tenor, Placido Domingo in his first ever performance of the baritone role of Don Carlo. Francesco Meli will perform the title role of Ernani. James Levine conducts.
