Why see Metropolitan Opera - El Nino?
Biblical Retelling
For the first time, the Metropolitan Opera will present a production of John Adams' expansive and much lauded work El Nino. Skillfully interlacing passages from the Bible with verses penned by Latin American poets, El Nino delves into the story of the Nativity, retelling it through the eyes of Mary.
Premiered in 2001, Adams' opera-oratorio delves deeply into the concept of a "miracle" and seeks to understand its profound significance. This magnificent performance will be conducted by one of this generation's best conductors in Marin Alsop and features fellow Met debutants Julia Bullock, soprano and Davonte Tines, bass-baritone. Also performing in this production are mezzo-sopranos J'nai Bridges and Daniela Mack, alternating on selected dates.
