Why see Good Time Charlie?
New World Premiere from Drama Desk Winner
Ryan J. Haddad brings his new play Good Time Charlie to the Public Theater, returning to the venue of his Drama Desk Award-winning semi-autobiographical drama Dark Disabled Stories. Directed by Danny Sharron, as with many of his previous works this world premiere stars Haddad himself, with additional casting to be announced. A master of portraying the realities both the queer and disabled experience, this new work ventures into the world of theatrical ambition and the journey of those who dream to be in the spotlight.
What Is The Story?
Charlie would have loved a career in the theater, but at the behest of his parents he went for a practical career in dentistry instead. But a second chance at his dreams presents itself in the form of his nephew, Ryan, a kindred spirit as a young gay theater lover with aspirations of making it to Broadway. Charlie becomes Ryan's ultimate cultural mentor, and across thirty years, this comedy-drama charts the parallel journeys of two generations of gay men as they navigate the world they inhabit, while celebrating those who give us permission to hold ambition.
