The Tin Pan Ally Rag

Why see The Tin Pan Ally Rag?

The Tin Pan Alley Rag tells the story of an imagined meeting of two of America’s greatest musicians, composer Scott Joplin and songwriter Irving Berlin. The two great icons realize they have more in common than they ever suspected.

Irving Berlin and Scott Joplin had business representatives at the same address--if they had met in the lobby in 1915, what would they say to each other? Joplin, a conservatory-trained black man known for his compositions in "ragtime," was seeking funds to produce his opera Treemonisha. And Berlin, 20 years younger, with no formal musical training, had made millions with songs about ragtime.
